Central Pennsylvania and Northern Maryland Field Trip: Aug. 24 and 25,
2007
Friday Aug. 24, 2007: National Limestone Quarry Corp. Quarry in Mount
Pleasant Mills, PA for Wavellite, Strontianite, Calcite and Celestite.
The Quarry is located at 217 Quarry Rd, Mount Pleasant Mills, PA. Meet
at 7:30 AM, enter at 8:00 AM. No late arrivals. Dig all day (bring
lunch). Please bring a “WNY/S. Ontario area” specimen to donate to the
quarry manager.
Saturday, Aug. 25, 2007: LaFarge Medford Quarry, New Windsor, MD for
Calcite, Todorokite, Marble, and Dendrites. The Quarry is located at
1106 Medford Rd., New Windsor, MD. Meet at 8:30 AM, enter at 9:00 AM.
No late arrivals. We will be leaving in the “early afternoon” so bring
lunch.
Steel toed shoes, hard hat, eye protection, long pants required. Must be
18 years old or older. Gas saws are permitted at both quarries. No
climbing on walls.
Suggest staying in motel in Selinsgrove or Shamokin Dam, PA on Thursday
night for National Limestone Quarry and in Westminster, MD on Friday
night for Medford Quarry.
